Vivekananda College of Education was set up under the aegis of Vivekananda Society of Education and Research. The College was started in 1995 in Kathua in a rented building. In fact, it was the first College of Education started to impart training at Bachelor of Education level outside Jammu city at that time. Today, it is popularly acknowledged as a centre of Excellence in the region. It provides professionals to the teaching field with skills hone to assume exalted leadership positions in the state and national spectrum. The College was started with a mission to provide intellectually well developed, socially concerned, morally upright and spiritually oriented teachers having proud of Indian Sanskriti & Civilization. The College has set high academic standards and excelled in thought-leadership by providing a pool of creative genius endowed with teaching competence. It has promoted the evolving B.Ed. teaching with professionally managed labs and committed staff. The College has a learning environment that encourages innovation, creativity, and excellence. Location

The College shifted to its own new spacious four storeyed building in 2000-01at Lakhanpur, 1 km away from Gateway of Jammu & Kashmir State, on Pathankot-Jammu National Highway in a very ideal and idyllic atmosphere away from hub - bub of city life, It is at a distance of about 3 Kmts. from Kathua railway station. It is at 19 Kmts distance from Pathankot (Punjab).
